From attending NB3 Foundation soccer camps as a child to becoming the first Native American player in the NWSL, Madison Hammond continues to inspire Native youth through her leadership, perseverance and commitment to community.
As Notah Begay III’s niece, Madison grew up connected to NB3 Foundation and participated in sport programs during her childhood. In a recent Nike feature tied to the newest N7 collection celebrating soccer and Indigenous communities of the Southwest, she reflects on how playing soccer alongside other Native girls helped shape her confidence, identity and belief in what was possible.
“I played on a team through [NB3 Foundation]. Being able to do that on our reservation with other girls that were from San Felipe Pueblo was really impactful for me.”
Today, Madison serves as a role model for Native youth and girls, showing the importance of representation, mentorship and staying connected to community while pursuing excellence.
